As a founding member of Departure ATX, Joel Godson has been lending his dynamic basslines and vocal harmonies to the band since its inception—and before the group officially debuted in 2015. Alongside Jesse Monaghan, Joel first planted the seeds of a Texas-sized Journey tribute in 2010, later joining forces with Mark Ramsey and Scott Olsen to bring the idea to life .

Joel brings more than just heavy grooves to the stage—he’s a passionate performer with deep roots in Austin’s cover-band scene. His backing vocals complement the lead, helping craft the lush, multi-layered harmonies central to the band’s signature arena-rock sound. Joel’s precision and musical chemistry with the rest of the band keep performances tight, authentically echoing the spirit of Journey while carrying their own powerful edge .
